Just retirmed from a 20 day tour of SE Asia

And it's great to be back. I visited Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. We saw the Hanoi Hilton, China Beach, the Chi Cu VC tunnels, and the Hue Citadel. In Cambodia we visited Angkor War. In Thailand I took the River Kwai Tour to the real Bridge on the River Kwai.

There were actually two bridges built there by allied POWs. One was wooden, and the other was concrete and steel. Both were destroyed by allied bombing in June 1945. The steel one was repaired, and is still used today. We saw the Death Railway Museum and the Allied POW Cemetery, and took a boat ride to the bridge. Later we took a ride on the Thailand Burma Railway. It was very cool, and very historic.

I highly recommend it. Everything is very inexpensive. In Seam Reap, Cambodia (my favorite city on the tour), draft beer was 50 cents.

Sounds great. Do you think you could live in any of those countries, even if it was part time? I hear its incredibly affordable and the people are extremely nice.

Yes I could very easily, and they are very affordable: draft beer in Seam Reap was 50 cents. Laundry in two different cities was about $5. A fantastic foot massage (from foot to knee, and then a little work on the head and shoulders) was about $7!
The most expensive meal I had was a fantastic hotel buffet, which included a lobster, for about $44.

What is the worst experience you have had on any of your travels ??

Getting sick, hands down. I got sick in Kathmandu in 2015 with a case of "Delhi belly". I also got sick on the plane ride over to Kenya in 2017 and on my recent 12 hour flight to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. My system doesn't seem to handle the stress of long plane flights very well.

The second worst experience was leaving my backpack with my Passport in a cab in Paris. I eventually got it back because the cab driver was honest and turned it into the police. And I got a new passport at the American Consulate in Paris. I now leave my passport in the safe in my hotel room. The third worst was losing my wallet in a cab in Dublin, Ireland. Once again the cab driver was honest, and I got it back.

I usually schedule an extra day at the beginning and ending of my trips to accommodate such events. The extra day came in very handy on this last trip. Once I got over it, I was fine for the rest of the trip.
