Surely, this is part of a growing trend to influence the consumer in their choice of movies and shows. The Netflix team likely looked at statistic feedback based on viewing numbers and discovered that users are spending less time watching their content by reading reviews. So, BOOM, no more reviews [evil laugh]!
shareMuch like when they got rid of the stars on the streaming site, a thumbs up tells you really nothing. It just means you didn't hate it. With that simplified system along with getting rid of the reviews viewers are left with dodgy selections with a percentage system based on your thumbs up/down which so far has not been accurate for me. It is without a doubt a way to insulate some of Netflix's material from negative criticism and have people going into them largely blind.
shareThe recent Netflix film, Tau, I thought it was terrible. But, I don't want to give it a thumbs down because I don't want Netflix to get the impression that I don't like that type of film, because I do. Up or down is insufficient and hamhanded.
