Best Movies of 2017? (so far)

I'd go with John Wick 2 so far.

Looks like this is going to be the year of sequels: John Wick, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars, Alien, Kong, Blade Runner, Transformers, Fast and Furious, Thor, Pirates, xXx, Kingsman, Mummy, Cars, etc. are all having sequels this year.

Good point about the sequels. Didn't know there were that many this year. I'm really excited about Guardians 2.

But best one so far? Logan. But that's not saying much because it's still really early.

The LEGO Batman movie is my pick for best of 2017 so far. Logan is my second choice.

Everything is sequels now or a redo of an original. I still remember the Spiderman series and then within four years after, they made The Amazing Spiderman. If I see two of the same movies, within a decades time, it kind of makes me wonder why I would spend my money on it. I think Hollywood is seriously running out of ideas and these movies are just productions milking the crap out of originals. Can we say that we, the viewers, are getting a fair bit of entertainment for the money we put down? I know if I was an actor/actress I would be. Being part of an audience, not really.

Haha you know there's also a new Spider-Man movie coming out this year as well?

OMG!!

Just kill me already?! I AM DONE WITH SUPERHERO MOVIES!!!

Honestly there haven't been any mind blowing movies this year so far. Just mostly standard action fare - Logan, John Wick, etc.

Looking at what's coming up this year, there doesn't seem to be anything too promising on the slate either. But then again who could have predicted La La Land, Moonlight, etc...

I really like A Cure For Wellness despite its mixed views (tbh I can understand why someone might not like it) I also really liked Jonh Wick cant cant wait for Logan (gonna see it next Tuesday :)

Even though I love movies, I feel so out of the loop with a lot of them now or what even is playing because there just aren't many around that I think seem good or like something I'd want to use my money on. I'm much more attuned into what is going on with tv these days than film because I'm just following the quality...

I share a lot of the same sentiments others have in this thread so to answer your question, it's a big fat, "I don't know," for me. I haven't been able to see that many of them. I'm trying to remember the last time a movie really stood out and stuck with me. I did just watch that, 'I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore,' which was alright and different and smaller, but...I don't know if its indie darling hype is justified.

A lot of indies these days seem to follow this pattern of seeming like this quiet, slice of life movie and then in their third act just escalate outrageously into something super violent. I don't know, maybe that's just my observation. It's sort of getting old quick, in my opinion.

So far I haven't seen any which I would classify as "best".
