When my daughter was six years old I took her to a gun range. I had a .22 magnum revolver and after going over her with gun safety and the basics she was able to hit the target almost every time. She just got better with experience.
I would rather teach my daughter about the safe ways to use a firearm so if she ever comes accross a gun say at a friend's house she knows how to safely handle that situation.
That's what responsible gun ownership looks like. It should only be those that can exert safety, responsibility, proficiency, and care of the gun that should be able to own them, not backward folks that can't even properly store them so a toddler can get their hands on it.
