Boris Johnson

what the hell is wrong with him?!

Nicola sturgeon (the Scottish first minister) has already said that face coverings will be mandatory when their shops reopen.

Boris (the UK prime minister) has now said, under much public pressure, that face coverings will be mandatory England (&Wales?) from 24th July. After shops being open for weeks already in England.

Why not from tomorrow? What is he so scared of?

It's like the weeks running up to lockdown all over again and look how well that went 😣

Don't criticise Blow Joe, he's just had a traumatic haircut.

"A YouGov poll found that 36% of people in the UK wear a face mask in public places, compared with 86% in Spain, 83% in Italy, 78% in France and 65% in Germany.

Johnson himself wore a mask for the first time in public last week, and went further on Monday, urging the public in England to wear masks in shops as β€œextra insurance” against the coronavirus."

There are plenty of stupid Brits, too.

reply

I'm just concerned as I work in hospitality in close contact with the public, 6 days a week and 8 hour shifts. Nobody will wear a mask unless it's mandated. I feel like I'm risking my life, and even more so the elderly residents of my boyfriend's daughter's care home if I infect her through my work. People only think of themselves and not the wider community.

I'm relatively fit and unlikely to have any severe symptoms if I do catch covid, but others may not be as fortunate. If wearing a mask reduces the risk, even by a small amount, i don't see what the issue is πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

In Australia they are hoarding the masks for the hospitals, doctors, police and the like. The Government said they would start making them here back when this business first started but they've gone quiet about that since. So unless people can find a stash somewhere or make their own it's no mask.

reply

Have you tried Ebay? I've ordered from them with no problem. The price has come down, too.

reply

I had the coronavirus back in April so I'm not concerned about wearing one.

Recently, I read immunity may last only a few months. Mild cases tend to have no or few antibodies. Even if you have immunity, you can still spread it to others.

Other coronaviruses don't provide permanent immunity so there's a good chance Covid-19 immunity is temporary, too.

This article went viral on Monday and has a link to two studies:

This article is informative:

Too many unknowns about this virus right now. Better safe than sorry.

It would be interesting to see if your antibodies are the same or diminished in a few weeks from now.

reply

First the "experts" say this and then they say that, then some other "expert" comes out and says the opposite.

Mostly because this virus is new they just don't have much of a clue yet. So I base my opinion on the fact that if you have a disease then in most cases you have a level of immunity to it and an increased immune response to it if or when you are infected by it again.

reply

Except with coronaviruses which don't have permanent immunity according to history. The Italian study supports temporary immunity. The good news is if you become sick again, your T-cells may kick in and make it milder.

Denial won't change the facts. Still better safe than sorry.

reply

Well you're an expert on denial at least on that much we can agree.

reply

You're the one pretending you have immunity. You can't handle the truth!

It sounds like you're going to depend on injecting disinfectant to keep you safe.

reply

Obvious troll is obvious.

reply

Two links to informative medical articles and two separate studies is factual information which you can't handle.

You can't magic-think your way out of a pandemic. Still better safe than sorry.

reply

That's horrible! It sounds like your employer and local government don't care. I'll eventually work with the public again, so I bought face shields to pair with my masks for more protection. If you're indoors, try to keep windows and doors open to clean out any aerosoles, too.

I think they need to change the narrative. Instead of talking about young or healthy people not becoming sick which makes them act carelessly, the emphasis should be on their jobs, earning potential and layoffs. The longer the economy is bad because of coronavirus, the greater the change of it effecting or hurting them financially. Their attitudes would more likely change.
