Horror tv shows are way better than movies these days

in the last few years i've really only liked a few new horror movies but they can't compare to the horror tv shows i've seen such as these:

Wolf Creek
Scream: The TV Series
Penny Dreadful
Scream Queens
The Exorcist
The Returned
Slasher
Damien
Dead of Summer
Harper's Island
The River
American Horror Story
Bates Motel
Salem
Supernatural
The Walking Dead
Stranger Things

there's probably some i'm forgetting but even horror movies aren't what they used to be, horror tv series are pretty good

I've watched Penny Dreadful and caught bits of Walking Dead - basically soap operas, although PD did it much better until it fizzled out. AHS episodes aren't long enough to fit in all the storytelling - they're a bit hectic for me.

British TV horror from the '70s is often better in my view, but then it doesn't try to do too much.

"Dead of Summer" sucked in my opinion. Not enough action until the end of the season, and the twist was weak.
I liked the first season of "Bates Motel" but they filled the show with too much drama and introduced plots that made no sense.
"American Horror Story" I loved except for Season 2 and that Freak show one.
"Salem" looked more like an erotic thriller. Never could get into "Supernatural," though I tried.
I didn't finish "Slasher," but I want too. Looks good.

I've seen season 1 and 2 of American Horror Story. I liked season 1 a lot. It was just super insane.

I've seen through season 5 of the Walking Dead. It's good but some of the episodes drag.

Although these shows are good, I still like movies better. The Witch was my favorite horror thing last year, beating out all other movies and tv shows.

I haven't watched the first episode of this last season, but I am enjoying "Bates Motel". Vera Farmiga is astounding as an actor.
NBC dropped the ball when they cancelled "Hannibal". It was an exquisite series. They are also idiots for dropping "Grimm". This latter series is on its last season, and is a very cute show.

There are plenty of good horror movies these days. Unless you only watch mainstream American horror movies.

Apart from Stranger Things I haven't watched any horror television. I don't really have the time to watch whole series anymore so I'm very specific about which shows I will watch. That said I'm doubtful whether these shows can match the calibre of recent horror films such as The Babadook, The Witch, Green Room, It Follows etc. I'd like to be proven wrong though.
