Need the title of a 30 year old movie where the main villain gets run over by spike strip at the end

Sorry for the spoiler, but the ending is pretty much all that I remember. I'll tell you what I do know:

I watched this movie between 1987 and 1992, but if I had to narrow it down, it was most likely 1988 or 1989. It was viewed on either HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax, which is what I had at the time.

I don't remember much else, but the main bad guy seems to have avoided death a few times. While he has no super powers, he had a knack for escaping. Finally, he's run over in some kind of indoor parking lot. This still doesn't stop him, as he's hanging on from under the front of the car, starting to climb up. Well, now the driver runs into a spike strip, killing him.

Please help me find the title so I can watch this again.

Does he get killed by the spike strips or do they cause the tires to deflate so the car crushes him?

reply

He gets killed by the spike strips.

I haven’t seen The Hitcher (1986) for a long time but that’s the first movie that came to mind when I read this.

reply

That's not how he dies in The Hittcher so it isn't that movie.

reply

I originally invisioned the spike strips the police use to stop people fleeing in a vehicle.

I realized it probably was the spikes used to stop cars from entering a parking lot/ramp through an exit. They're also called traffic spikes, tire shredders, one-way traffic treadles, tiger teeth and tire poppers.

That realization hasn't helped me find the movie, but others might use it to track it down.

reply

Yes, that's exactly it. I believe they were there to stop cars from leaving this parking lot.

It's 1998 but maybe Urban Legend

morbius1000 I think you got it, although I'm not the OP so I can't be sure lol.

reply

Sadly, no.

reply

That is a great example of OP's scene.

While the death scene is the sorta the same, it's not it for a number of reasons:

1) That looks like a good guy dying. My movie the bad guy dies this way, and then it ends.

2) In the movie I'm thinking, the car doesn't roll. A hero runs over the bad guy by driving it himself, with (I think) a woman in the passenger's seat.

3) It's certainly not 1998.

Thank you for the reply though, it was an excellent suggestion!

The Hitcher ?

reply

Someone above said that, and another poster replied and said "That's not how he dies in The Hittcher (sic) so it isn't that movie."

However, since two people suggested The Hitcher, was the death scene similar? If yes, that could be it.

reply

It's not The Hitcher. Here is the ending - https://youtu.be/cOMKEm3x0dY

Thank you. Odd that two people would suggest The Hitcher. Wonder why?

reply

Mandela effect? Lol.
