There was a very similar case recently - again in India, I think - where some poor cop on a raid to break-up a cockfight was killed. The cock's metal spur sliced his femoral artery as he picked it up and tried to remove it from the arena.

No, I'm security obsessed/paranoid. I don't sleep with it open, no matter what the temperature (of course, I'm in the UK, where we don't usually get the kind of weather that those of you in more exotic climes do).
