I already posted in this thread a long time ago on the old boards, but here's my updated top five. 1. Tangled 2. Lilo & Stitch 3. Bambi 4. Beauty & the Beast 5. The Little Mermaid Unfortunately it just seems these boards aren't very active. As for the topic, these films came at a time when the "outcast" character type became very popular. Also, while I don't believe there's a Disney formula, the Renaissance period did kind of have one and Disney seemed to stick with it pretty closely until they realized people were getting bored with it. I wish I could add more but my simple explanations are probably about as deep as this subject gets. I agree Pixar can be hit or miss, though I don't think they've made a truly bad film to date. Their films are certainly not "cardboard with zero substance". And with all that said, while Pixar has had some small misses, this film isn't one of them. Oh, you think I was taking you seriously, how cute! I only take those with real responses seriously. As for you, I've now seen enough of your posts that I know your theme song! Here you go, sing along! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReNCe06jX6Y Here's mine: Kiki's Delivery Service Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind My Neighbor Totoro Spirited Away Howl's Moving Castle Princess Mononoke Castle in the Sky Castle of Caligostro Porco Rosso Ponyo The Wind Rises It's kind of sad Ghibli was never able to find proper replacements for Miyazaki and Takahata. It's nice that new films are being made, but this can't last forever. It's gonna be sad when the studio meats it's inevitable end, but I'm glad we've gotten all the wonderful pieces of art they've given us over the years. It's so interesting seeing my old post and reflecting on how I've changed since then. While I don't think I said anything wrong here, I now believe that Grave of the Fireflies is quite the cinematic masterpiece regardless of it's intentions. My absolute favorite film is Keichi Hara's Colorful from 2010...it's a heavily personal choice so I won't spill the details here. Summer Wars and Whisper of the Heart are a respectable 2nd and 3rd place. From whom? Almost all animated film start hand drawn no matter what their actual style ends up being. If you just mean 2D animated films, a few of those are made every year, look them up. No, the topic title is quite correct, this film is rather underrated. The hate this film gets is definitely undeserved. There's nothing remotely racist about this film...it's about dogs and cats. I don't even think Disney knows what racism actually is. I've only recently joined this board but I'm gonna just copy and paste my response to this from other boards. I'm really just so tired of hearing about Trump one way or the other. He's not the President anymore, it's official, please everyone just stop talking about him and any stupidity that comes from those who love or hate him. And stop all this talk of film censorship, leave films as is unless it's an extended director's cut. Please...the show did take the easy way out with it’s laughably bad series finale. As for Future, it’s largely hated by everyone because of its blatant character assassination and awful execution. I’m not sorry, but Steven Universe will be remembered as the greatest wasted potential in cartoon history. Yes this film was overrated but it’s not worth discussing anymore...it’s not like anyone cares about it now. I'm gonna need exact details on which 15 minutes because I wouldn't cut a thing from this film, it's practically perfect as is. Depends on who you ask, but realistically, it goes up and down. It's been in a down period for a few years now but hopefully it will get better again. Silly stuff like this is why I adopted the "Frozen rule", which is "if everyone is calling something overrated then it's obviously not". I love Tangled more than Frozen too, but Frozen is a very good film in it's own right and by no means overrated. Tangled is certainly better than both of these films as a whole, but Frozen is not a bad movie by any stretch, it's quite good in fact. Brave on the other hand is a complete mess unfortunately.
