maybe they broke up with the princesses so they returned to the middle ages and ten years later Bill & Ted changed their minds and picked them up just after they returned to the middle ages so they aged ten years while the princesses stayed the same age

I had never watched them from start to finish. Kinda disappointed by them. The only part that stood out was when they get themselves stuff from the future, a bit that they reuse in the second one.
