I agree, you lose the experience of just watch it and hear it, it becomes a distraction and you lose part of the visual storytelling Cinema isn't literature The man that was living under the house, was in somehow, respectful of Mr. Park, he treated him like a king, he speaked of him in the same manner, and also he switched the lights of the staircase every single time for him The fact that Mr. Park did that with his nose, was the final straw for the father, it just was too much impotency for his situation in the low part of the social scale vs the upper scale, like others had said he snapped Its more a feeling than well argumentated matter But I think the exageration in the behaviour of almost every character towards the dark side of human nature its on purpose Leone has called himself a pesimist before, but I think this goes even deeper, this film its like a crazy experiment on human behaviour Just think about all the horrible things you end up laughting about Its a satire, It should make you think about human nature Yeah, that's why I follow him, he does what cinema should always strive for, visual storytelling But dialogue not necesarely means that you are telling things instead of showing them Dialogue can be used in a way in wich words are not there for explaining or moving the story forward Action is the number one thing that does that, but it can also be used for a different effect I like to think that audiences by now can accept that there are no true happy endings That's what I hope anyway In this case, I think TOTDY ending is more on the allegorical or metaphorical side of things, even in its own open ended nature Not so much in the case of Martin, I think he is one of the more human or real characters of the film So you got metaphorical moments with terrenal moments mixed toghether About the snorting, first I thought he was faking it to break Martin's balls Then on some episodes he stopped doing it And then again, in a very key scene I think its kind of allegorical in some way, there was this kind of strange sexual tension between the father, the girl and the (?) cop Or maybe that scene was a joke gone wrong and Martin totally goes bananas, maybe not, i don't know, its kind of ambiguous Well you can tell I always have high hopes for Refn, the guy has done it again and that's great "In an interview of the creator, he suggested a viewer could watch episodes out of order" Didn't know that, that could be fun I think Refn has an interesting view on fascism
