I say Jimmy died. I only say this because I prefer the theatrical cut to the TV cut, but still, in my mind, despite knowing the scene where he lives at the end well, the final version is that he died.
It totally was, but really it just fit well. I really like direct continuations like that, the atmosphere was close, and despite some mis-steps near the end (invincible Michael walking through glass doors just because he can and taking two to the eyes without slowing down!), it still is among my favorites, and is the last movie I watch for the Halloween season (my last two are the original and part 2 every year)!
Jacob is correct: they are rebooting everything after part 1. Kinda sad! I love this film!
