The giant squids and gravity wells made the shortcut too dangerous for most pilots. Han took the risk to complete the run in 12 parsecs. You sound like one of those critical thinkers, the studios don't cater to your type. That's hilarious, somehow I hadn't noticed. Movies series like this always revive characters if they are "cool" enough. Sometimes they forget that the death of a character can serve an important role in a story, and undoing that death cheapens the greater narrative. One of my favorite cinematic deaths is the death of Barbossa, a great character with an even greater death. He desires the sensation of the simple joys in life such as eating an apple. When the curse is undone he feels "cold". Great scene, but then the writers bring him back because they let focus groups write the next films. Another character is Agent Coulson, he had a meaningful death to bring The Avengers together. But then a separate group of writers created "Agents of Shield" and brought Coulson back from the dead. Here, Darth Maul was brought back because focus groups demanded it. Expect to see more lightsabers as well. I don't know what Billy Dee Williams political views were in the 80's but he didn't feel the need to adopt an alter ego and rap about them.
