I had always considered the rape line to be meant ironically. Actors are much less likely to go in for plastic surgery and botox here than in Hollywood. This means that they might not look like they 30 when they are 40. On the other hand, they don't look like a mummified corpse when they are 50 like so many grotesques in Tinseltown. Some of the replies to the OP are rather patronising. It is a long and complex movie with a lot to absorb. It takes more than one viewing to fully appreciate it's many subtleties. Exactly crypicanomaly73. She knew what fate awaited them and that it would not be long delayed. Each to their own I suppose. I thought the montage was very classy. At that time mainstream movies were breaking out of their narrative shell and this was a great technique for doing so. Came across it last night when I was browsing for a movie to watch. Absolutely top-notch psychological thriller. The two leads were incredible. I was gripped from the start realising I was watching a film that is guaranteed to become a cult classic. Lol. It was compelling drama but I don't really think there is anywhere else for it to go. You may as well ask why there is comedy in any movie genre.Humour is often used to make a serious point. Was there ever a time when people of any colour or gender were not genocidal, bloodthirsty racists? This period was certainly one of the worst in that regard. Perfectly possible. However, it took me only a couple of minutes to find the information I posted so I rather think that it is more likely that it is another one of those moments in the show where Sam's memory is seen to be faulty. Tapioca pudding would be a very 1970's dish here. Horseradish sauce is still very much part of the cuisine. As I remember it Sam had collected the food from the service counter and discovered his mistake when he got to the table and tasted the food. The game was the Manchester United v Manchester City match played on 21st April 1973, the only derby played at Old Trafford in that year. It was a 0-0 draw. Sam was probably experiencing a false memory. More believable in The Wicker Man as the Island was a Pagan community. It was the end of the movie. Then, just as now, they were bastards. The Party exists only to protect the wealth and power of the Corporate Ruling Class. Much though I enjoyed Ronnie Barker, it wouldn't have worked with him. Norman Wisdom would have been very similar to Michael Crawford, but probably less subtle. He would also have been too old. Agreed. It must have been a very difficult part to play but she really made something of it. Yes, Series 3 saw Frank become much more grumpy and willing to speak up for himself.
