The dead Jardyce was his Great Uncle. The OP obviously has his tongue firmly placed in his cheek. There were lots of superstitious people who believed in the concept of witchcraft at the time, but others would simply use it as an excuse to behave sadistically towards others. I agree. I recorded the film on TV and couldn't decide whether to watch it or not as it had received decidedly mixed reviews. I am very glad I decided to give it a go. Exactly. I think audiences outside the United States would see the class struggle aspect of the film more clearly. America is so polarised along racial lines that few are likely to think beyond that divide. To British audiences, it is obvious who he is. Foreign viewers wouldn't really miss anything by just seeing him as a perverted celebrity. Best so far in my opinion. Still waiting for someone to explain why they think this show is politically correct. You are so right LivingMCM. There were far too many people using the boards to start political arguments and just to be nasty. I hope that doesn't happen here. It spoilt it all for people who just wanted to share their passion for movies with other enthusiasts. I absolutely hate Country Music, trite and conservative as most of it is. I call it "fake Folk Music" as there is, obviously, a genuine American Folk which is fascinating. I always say I will never be old enough to listen to Country. That said, I love this movie. Biting satire at it's best which lays into the ,mostly, dislikable characters and the phony world that they inhabit as well as Watergate-Era American society in general .As a Brit I like and recognise Geraldine Chaplin's character. I have actually met people just like her. The worst songs are hilarious because they are little different lyrically and musically from the real thing . You can see some of the audiences smiling but others seem to take the satire at face value. Agreed. I love commentaries when they offer insight. Sadly, there was very little of that here. A pity as it is a great movie. He seemed to have difficulty recalling much about it too. I always say that The Gradute is half of a good movie."Part 1" is a witty and sharply observed piece of social satire. On the other hand, "Part 2" is a frantetic, self-indulgent mess typifying much of the flim-making of that period of film history. Surnames were more often offered in the more formal times back then. No it wasn't. It was a very low-budget movie . Agreed. The Heathen sacrifice will not ensure a good harvest, but nor Will Howie's Christian faith save him from being sacrifised.
