Critics do the inner circlejerk routine, if nothing else when they hail a movie with the maximum praise it's always a sign for me to approach with caution and keep expectations restrained. Fortunately i was prepared for Lady Bird. 2 out of 10 from me hownos. Critics tho, they do the circlejerk routine, they blatantly conform, or maybe they are doing PR/sucking up. How is this atrocity hailed as one of 2017s best movies? Outrageous... The strides in technology and criminology effectively reduced the prolificity of serial killers they usually get caught early on. Also the increased likelihood that they will get caught serves as a halting factor to begin with. Instead we have an increased frequency in the one time mass murder incidents. 5/10 typical hollywood popcorn flick nothing amazing but reasonable time killer I actually own that, but i am pretty sure it's not an actual documentary on sleep paralysis. More like a faux-documentary style movie. Solid recommendations. bump Ok i belong to the minority here, but The Mist ending felt so contrived and artificial that wasn't as effective for me. Seeking movie recommendations on movie forums, beyond preposterous. As a sidenote about Kairo, in recent years there were 2 sequences in horror movies that made my spine chill : The ghost sequences in Kairo and the notorious scene in Lake Mungo. If you watch it you ll know what i am talking about, just be prepared! Oh ok, so you delved into the horror genre as well, drama/horror is always an interesting blend. I have watched Martyrs and it disturbed the life out of me a truly unsettling watch throughout. Audition is one of my all time favorite J-Horror flicks it has much more depth than what the eye initially meets, it has very high rewatchability (my word) value. Mysterious Skin - I do own but haven't watched it yet, obviously can't wait to experience it. The Road - Unfortunately wasn't as effective as i thought it would be, gotta give them props for the gloomy and grim atmosphere they crafted. Since you are down that route, you might wanna check Kairo ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286751/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 ), it's a drama with horror elements from one of the masters of cinema Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Please let us know which ones you watched and share your thoughts. I promise you if i had more free time i would have used all of it to watch movies! So it seems like this thread is lowkey turning one of the most popular ones around here. I mean i thought i would barely get any responses. Another winner! You nailed it. That was definitely top 10 chilling scenes material. No, regardless of genre! Salo - watched Men behind the Sun - watched Cannibal Ferox - own, haven't watched yet The Human Centipede - watched, felt like borderline comedy unfortunately, the 2nd one was much better tho Fetish Crush videos - pass Gummo - own, haven't watched yet Children Underground - stumbled upon this one long time ago, but now that you brought it to my attention again i will be seeking to acquire it. Also let me direct you towards a director named Marian Dora, he has an extensive disturbing filmography going on, i would suggest starting with Cannibal (2006) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910548/?ref_=nm_knf_i2 which is a dramatic re-enactment of a real life cannibalism incident that happened in Germany (Armin Meiwes) No takers? You don't watch many horror flicks around here i take it ? Yea dude, unfortunately i reside in middle of nowhere in Europe and anything that you import outside the EU comes with the respective fee. On a more positive note this trilogy received a media release in EU as well and the UK amazon has it so i will be pulling the trigger from there : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Riding-Trilogy-DVD/dp/B001TEKJZW/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1513674621&sr=1-1&keywords=Red+Riding Also, seeing you mentioned the original Martyrs, which incidentally i thought it was frame by frame one of the most disturbing movies i have ever seen, i am curious if you have any other recs in up your sleeve to share with us because it certainly looks like that you have quite the taste in grim movies going. Thanks, i found it but... The damn shipping cost and import fee is killing me.
