5/10 The new Star Wars films captures that classic Star Wars feel than the prequels, but going into the sequel trilogy with nothing planned out beyond The Force Awakens as Rian Johnson revealed in a tweet was a big mistake on her part. As much as I like The Last Jedi, it doesn't connect too strongly and follow up on what The Force Awakens left behind that feels satisfying. Two films in, this trilogy feels disjointed. She has also had to fire several directors during pre-production, but she has gotten along fine with J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson. Reshoots are commonplace in Hollywood, but re-shooting a majority of Rogue One and Solo does not look good on her business acumen. Despite this, Rogue One was a reasonably enjoyable film. Lastly, I'm all for strong female characters, but Rey (and everything the character stands for) is a betrayal of the lore. She is suddenly gifted in the Force by being able to do Force techniques despite having no prior training and knowledge that we know of, and is accomplished in lightsaber combat although she never held one before. She doesn't struggle to get what she wants unlike Luke did in the OT. A majority of this could be chalked to Kennedy's decision-making. I enjoyed the song and still do. I can understand '90s pop music feeling out of place in a Chinese setting, but the message of the song connects the film's theme of being yourself. It was a good song in my opinion. "True to Your Heart" by 98° and Stevie Wonder I think adult Simba is in his early twenties. We saw varying depictions of his adolescence during the "Hakuna Matata" sequence and The Lion King 1½, which I equate as his teenage years. I would give it 7/10.
