Major props to the four on Gold Derby who had perhaps the most accurate prediction of the wide open Best Actress Oscar race, predicting that both Kristen Stewart and Penelope Cruz would both get noms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BUjtCdmLg8 Anne Thompson was spot-on in saying Lady Gaga wasn't the Oscar frontrunner when most of Hollywood appeared to strongly disagree. Thompson even called Gaga "totally fake" which understandably incurred the wrath of Gaga fans. Despite being a huge Kristen Stewart fan I honestly thought Gaga was the frontrunner and was shocked when she got snubbed. I will be paying keen attention to who they predict to win the Best Actress Oscar.
Despite being snubbed by the Screen Actors Guild and BAFTA, I am very happy to see that Kristen just received her first Academy Award nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress category for her performance playing Princess Diana in Spencer (2021).
I admit, Carved, that I was getting nervous after Alana Haim began getting lots of Oscar buzz after her SAG nomination, while Lady Gaga sure appeared to be the Oscar frontrunner, as she was receiving noms from virtually every awards body which hands out prestigious accolades. So even while Kristen was an Oscar contender since Spencer premiered at the Venice Film Festival, I'm now a bit surprised that Kristen got in while both Gaga and Haim got snubbed. This proves that the SAG is not necessarily a precursor which accurately predicts which actors will receive an Oscar nom and shows how competitive the Best Actress category is this awards season, as Gaga would probably have been a lock for a nom most other years. So regardless of whether or not Kristen wins the golden statuette, huge congratulations to Kristen on making the cut! While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, taken in the context of the cosmetic industry being hit hard in large part because of COVID-19 lockdowns and mask mandates which have contributed greatly to a huge drop off in sales of blush and lipstick, may explain why many women avoided blush and got accustomed to the natural look. However, in the fashion world, draped blush was definitely trending during fashion shows throughout 2021. Take for example Anna Sui who was named one of the top 5 fashion icons of the decade. In Sui's haute couture shows, her runway models wore highly pigmented hues on their cheekbones and she predicts statement blush will make a huge comeback in 2022. It's no secret that many of Kristen's fashion cues come from the world's leading fashion houses as she herself sports haute couture wardrobes and makeup for the luxury fashion house Chanel. I personally love the way Kristen draped blush for this pic as it gives the illusion of a more sculpted bone structure. For a woman who already possesses enviable cheekbones and jawline, it made her facial features appear all the more perfect. As far as the mainstream look, the classic rosy cheeks/old-school blush look is predicted to be in while the no-makeup look will be out. Not sure if this has more to do more with the luxury fashion houses setting the trend or is it because of immensely popular videos on social networking sites which have led to an explosion in blush sales, namely the trending "underpainting" videos going viral on TikTok. You're not the first I've heard, comparing that unflattering pic to Little Nicky--one of the reasons why many of Kristen's fans circa the IMDb Message board days, wanted the picture changed. One fan in particular, I forgot the name, suggested we all contact IMDb and voice our opinion in hopes of getting it changed, but to no avail. Yes Evoken, an actress as pretty as her deserves a picture that flatters instead of detracts from her beauty. While appearance isn't everything, in Hollywood looks are king, so I'm baffled as to why it took so long to change the photo. Agreed Ron, as her previous pic looked like someone just took an impromptu snapshot of her, as there were lots of people in the background. I could be wrong, but the new picture on the other hand looks like it was taken in a studio by a photographer intent on making her appear as attractive as possible. And being that she is a world renowned fashion model for Chanel, one would think her profile pic would be fitting and becoming of this. When I posted this, MovieChat hadn't yet made the change, Carved. I'm guessing they have to manually update an actor's profile page as it doesn't seem to be updated automatically. I actually contemplated whether I should post this as the changing of an actor's profile pic is kinda trivial and superficial, but this was a big deal amongst many fans who once perused Kristen's now defunct IMDb message board page.
Oh yeah, one thing that I'm somewhat surprised about is that the Aspect Ratio is only listed as 1.66:1. Man, that's barely widescreen.
Funny you mention this Carved as when I was doing all my Spencer movie edits, during the editing phase, the video did not have black vertical bars on the side until I uploaded the video to YouTube which sets its standard aspect ratio at 16:9. I considered cropping the black bars but I'm glad I didn't as this would have negatively impacted the viewing experience as the European widescreen standard is associated with European arthouse films. In many of the scenes, Pablo Lorrain shot Spencer using KODAK Super 16 mm film which is synonymous with the 1.66:1 aspect ratio. He seems to be a big fan of this analog film format as his other critically acclaimed film Jackie was likewise shot in the 1.66:1 aspect and captured on 16mm film stocks. I believe this is what contributes to this films haunted feeling especially during the fable scenes while making Kristen appear to be even more hauntingly beautiful than she is during tight closeups. Lorrain and his cinematographer Claire Mathon tried to emulate Stanley Kubrick's camera movement and rhythm of shots in films such as A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon which were also shot using the 1.66:1 aspect. As a case in point, a film that looks absolutely gorgeous is Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander. The Criterion Collection Blu-Ray release of this film will take your breath away. I could not put my finger on why this film offered such a unique and visceral visual experience until I learned that it was filmed using the 1.66:1 aspect ratio and was shot on super 16mm film. Other noteworthy examples include Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, Stanely Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, Wolfgang Petersen's Das Boot, Katheryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker and Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan. If there's any consolation, Carved, at least it's good to know that the feelings we're experiencing pertaining to Kristen's snub isn't simply the feelings exclusive to a fan of hers. Many awards experts and film critics are stunned as well. Yeah, I understand that judging acting talent can be highly subjective, but even when one looks at the objective data, it still doesn't make any sense whatsoever that Kristen wasn't included among the five SAG nominees. I would understand the snub if it had to do with the five films of the actresses who were nominated were all critically acclaimed or commercially successful. But from these five films, only House of Gucci can be considered a box office success, while only The Eyes of Tammy Faye can be considered a critical darling as this was the only film that had a Rotten Tomatoes rating over the 60 percentile. So Spencer would have been a much better fit as it has a Certified Fresh RT score of 83%. And Kristen portrayed the most famous woman of our time and absolutely nailed the part according to the vast majority of film experts, for goodness sake! Of course winning an Academy Award is worth all the marbles, so I sure hope she at least gets nominated. As far as winning the golden statuette, no one has ever won the Best Actress Oscar without at least receiving a nom from the SAG. So this SAG snub really puts a damper on her prospects of winning, at least from a historical perspective. But then again, for a contender this highly regarded by the top awards experts to get snubbed, as many of them predicted her to win the SAG award, this too may likewise be unprecedented. So we'll just have to wait and see. Even the words of disappointment coming from fans such as you Ron, CKid, Allaby and myself is an understatement in comparison to what Jenelle Riley stated in a Variety article published earlier today entitled: SAG Nominations 2022: 19 Biggest Snubs and Surprises, From Kristen Stewart to Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and ‘Pose’ variety.com/2022/awards/news/kristen-stewart-sag-2022-snubs-surprises-1235152311/ If the name Jenelle Riley sounds familiar, perhaps it's because you watched the Q&A on the SAG channel I posted previously, as she was the moderator. Jenelle is the Deputy Awards and Features Editor at Variety and here are some excerpts from the article:
The SAG Awards are usually good for a few shockers, but there’s rarely one as big as this year’s omission of Kristen Stewart for her heralded performance in “Spencer.” That puzzling absence tops the list of head scratchers... SNUB: Kristen Stewart, “Spencer” Not to be hyperbolic, but it’s difficult to remember an omission as shocking as that of Stewart in the history of the SAG Awards. Since “Spencer” premiered at the Venice Film Festival (maybe even before), the actor has been pegged as the frontrunner for her turn as Princess Diana. Not only did her stunning turn silence any doubters, but there was a strong perception that Stewart was overdue for a nomination, having consistently turned in great work for years. Everything seemed to be on track: Stewart was charming on the circuit and racking up nominations and awards on a regular basis. It’s hard to say what happened — maybe enough voters didn’t see the film? Maybe everyone assumed she was safe and wanted to spread the love with their votes? We’ll never know.

I still have no idea why they had previously said that the scheduled arrival date had been delayed until February 16th, but obviously, such was not the case.
That's good to hear Carved. For us Hawaii residents, it oftentimes works the other way around. A seller could tell us to expect an order to arrive in a week when in reality if often takes two or even three weeks before it's delivered. A couple of days ago I was watching several of Kristen's interviews including this wonderful Q&A on the SAG-AFTRA Foundation YouTube channel: youtube.com/watch?v=A0iI9cLWxNU The SAG must really think the world of her performance in Spencer, considering the timing of this interview. Not! I checked Walmart's online site, Carved, and they are also taking pre-orders and selling it at the same price as Amazon. What I found interesting is if you order now, they claim it will arrive by January 19th. So if this is correct, there doesn't appear to be a supply chain issue at all. But I highly doubt Walmart will guarantee a January 19th delivery date when Amazon cannot even come close to meeting that date--so maybe there still isn't enough supply to meet short-term demand. So I sure hope you are able to get a copy at one of the retailers you mentioned on January 11th.
Of course, part of me is willing to wait even longer for the regular Blu-ray release of Spencer, this in the hope that the words, "WINNER: ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS (2021)" will need to be printed on the cover. ;-)
According to Metacritic's BEST OF 2021: FILM AWARDS & NOMINATIONS SCORECARD, metacritic.com/feature/film-awards-and-nominations-scorecard Kristen appears to be blowing away the competition in the Lead Actress category. However, I should add that Kristen did not win an award from the New York Film Critics Circle or Los Angeles Film Critics Association like she did for her performance in Clouds of Sils Maria. But then again, Kristen got snubbed for CoSM, so awards, even from the most prestigious film critics groups in the world, isn't a foolproof precursor for being nominated and winning an Oscar. So we'll have to wait until March 27th when the 94th Academy Awards ceremony takes place to know for sure. With that I hope you have a great day and year. I cancelled my Amazon Prime membership years ago, Carved, as a form of boycotting them. So for disclaimer purposes, I may not be the best one to explain what is going on with your order. Regarding the Spencer Blu-ray you ordered, the Amazon product page still mentions:
This title will be released on January 11, 2022. Pre-order now.
Judging by what you mentioned in your comment and reading between the lines, it sure seems that the number of copies of this film that were pre-ordered before you placed your order on December 1st, vastly exceed the number of copies they project to receive and ship out near the January 11th release date, so it would be interesting to know how many copies they have backordered that day. I'm aware that regarding items that are in stock, Amazon must ship out these items within 30 days of receiving the order from a customer. But as far as pre-orders, I'm quite certain that Amazon will only guarantee that they will fulfill your order and ship it out within 30 days of the release date (e.g., January 11 release date + 30 days = February 10, which gives the postal carrier nearly a week to deliver it to your door. Like I mentioned earlier, it appears that the demand for a Blu-ray copy of this film greatly exceeds the supply in the sense that not enough copies are projected to be made available to Amazon fulfillment centers in Florida within the next several days. So if the long delay is the result of a supply chain issue, hopefully the manufacturer will bump up production so that Amazon will have enough copies to mail out sooner than projected. I'm sure you also noticed I also included the clip from Undertow where you got your nickname Carved Kid from, when Kristen stated, "Can I carve your name in your face."
Needless to say, I also liked how David compared working with Kristen to driving a Ferrari.
And by his analogy, Cronenberg initially thought Kristen was a Volkswagen and was pleasantly surprised to discover that she was a Ferrari all along. As far as the interview, it delved pretty deep in the ontological sense, when he went on to discuss his existentialist and transhumanist take on the human nature of being as being a complete interpenetration between the inside and outside of ones body, that technology is an extension of the body and that when the body is finished, we're finished. Kristen eloquently chimed in on the topic by adding that technology is an extension of the body whether we use it to kill ourselves or to sustain our lives. The screenplay I recently completed explores a similar topic, although it differs in the sense that although humans experience everything through our flesh and blood bodies, including consciousness, when the body dies and so does our soul and consciousness, this does not necessarily mean it is the end of us--for if the body is resurrected by a higher power such as God, a human can live again. Of course my story takes place in a world and at a time when billionaire transhumanists rule a technocracy and plan on using everything at their disposal to enhance cognitive ability and extend human life, especially when it comes to its rulers and by doing so, taking God completely out of the equation, leading to humankind's eventual detriment and eternal demise. I noticed you left a comment on my most recent edit Ron, but I deleted the video and re-uploaded it as I forgot to add clips from Kristen's performance in On the Road in order to validate its title which is Kristen Stewart - Career Tribute (All Her Films): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3sDapF85UQ&t=9s Variety's film awards editor says that Kristen is currently the frontrunner of the Best Actress Oscar Race. So let's hope it stays that way: https://variety.com/feature/2022-oscars-best-actress-predictions-1235021150/
2022 OSCARS PREDICTIONS: BEST ACTRESS UPDATED: Dec 16, 2021 AWARDS PREDICTION COMMENTARY: Kristen Stewart leads the critics’ prizes for her turn as Princess Diana in “Spencer” from Pablo Larrain. The Neon and Topic Studios drama may be incredibly divided with general audiences. Still, there’s an appreciation and respect to what she brings to the role, and she may have reached her moment in the awards circle after being passed over for strong outings in films like “Clouds of Sils Maria.” Her biggest competition seems to be Lady Gaga as the murderous Patrizia Reggiani in “House of Gucci” from Ridley Scott. However, she’s already picking up a very high-profile win from the New York Film Critics Circle; she’s working the circuit and seems prime for her second acting nomination.
Whether of not Kristen will remain the frontrunner has yet to be seen. But one thing that is almost certain is the Best Actress Oscar winner will be one who is portraying a famous person: Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball Speaking on the topic of embodying real-life people, last year's Best Actress Oscar winner Frances McDormand won the golden statuette for portraying a lackluster, nondescript, uninspiring and fictitious character who lived her life as a nomad and formed no emotional connection with any of the other characters in the film. I mean, there is no point of reference on whether or not McDormand convincingly and realistically portrayed her character Fern, as Fern never existed. So I don't understand why some naysayers are splitting hairs on Kristen's performance, claiming she did not look or sound exactly like the most famous woman of the 20th century and for this reason should not win an Oscar. In my opinion, Kristen came as close as any actress has ever come to realistically portraying Diana Spencer on the big screen and for this very reason is worthy of the golden statuette. Of course, Kristen winning still depends on whether Kristen's portrayal was superior to that of Lady Gaga and Nicole Kidman. And to be fair, they too have naysayers, as the haters claim Kidman looks nothing like Lucille Ball while Lady Gaga has a Russian accent, not the Italian one she should have had in House of Gucci. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, some count more than others.
