Solid Thriller, Reminiscent of Assault on Precinct 13

Tense, well-made thriller that reminded me a bit of Assault on Precinct 13. The script is definitely not without its faults (Are they driving on the most isolated road in Spain? Because we never see a random vehicle), but the atmosphere is thick with tension and you're never quite sure what will happen next. One thing you do know is that it's going to keep getting colder and man does it ever. Good movie to watch on a hot day.

Kudos to Netflix for starting to offer some very good foreign films & series. Always interesting to see stories from different cultures.

This film also surprised me for the better. It's a type of film they don't make any more, reminiscent of High Noon and Outland, thrillers/westerns where the lead is out of his depth but has to soldier on no matter what.

I agree with the much too convenient plot devices (deserted roads, phones or radio not allowed) and the motivations for the bad guy are also implausibly ruthless, but all in all a breath of fresh air.

Plus, the Robocop reference (at the very end)was cool

Great comparison to High Noon (one of my all time favorites). It's always satisfying when a movie cop brings street justice to a scumbag character the audience knows would face little to no punishment. My favorite scene like this is from The Untouchables (1987) when Ness throws Nitti off a building down to the street below and when he's asked about Nitti later dryly responds: He's in the car.

Funny you say that, because to me, the ending (what you say you liked so much) could've been much better, and it's the weakest link in the film

Spoilers ahead

The young criminal the 'villain' is after doesn't fit the bill of a sadist, merciless rapist, torturer and murderer, nor does his accomplice. That made me roll my eyes, something I did again when the credits roll and the hero walks out of the police station and doesn't even get interrogated after shooting a man's hand off for no apparent reason.

That would be unimaginable in real life

I agree that in the real world, Martin would have been brought up on charges, or fired, or pushed to retire. But since that was basically the last scene of the movie, I didn't give it much thought.

However, criminals come in all varieties and just because someone doesn't look the part doesn't mean he or she isn't capable of terrible violence. Remember, Nano bashed the gangster's head in without giving it a second thought. In the real world, Ted Bundy was a perfect example of someone who looked normal on the outside but was a monster underneath.

You make some good points but I still feel they could've toned down the nature of the crime and subsequent dad's revenge, which would've made a more consistent ending.

I happen to be from Spain and that sort of petty criminal you see here so often isn't the one to torture, rape and murder underage girls. I watched the film with my wife and she said the same thing. Crushing a felon's head with a fire extinguisher does not quite compare with raping, torturing and the like

Glad to have this conversation, though. Things have never been the same after the death of Imdb forums
