I disagree. That would have been too much cringy. This goes in the right direction but misses to capitalize by making the pace too slow and showing the real plot just for a few seco9nods in the end.

An altercation with the Ram Man would have been better in my opinion.

Don't know. Forced to guess I'd say it's because that would be taking something elliptical and allegorical and turning it into something deeply cretinous. The filmmakers might've been keen to avoid being thought of as overly-literal idiots. Perhaps that scene will feature in the Hollywood remake, probably starring Nichole Kidman.
