At no time, to my knowledge, has a sponsoring network dont more to assassinate a show on their network
Tee show NEVER had a chance. The plot against it was deliberate calculated and timed.
The show was deliberately put into a day and time slot were it was already known that it would be preempted multiple times. It was totally predictable and was in fact carried out with even MORE preempts of unexplained reasons. It JUST WASN'T THERE!
Couple this with So may commercial interruptions within the show the show that it was impossible to establish ANY sort of continuity to a continuing story line. What is abundantly clear is that we have never seen and will never see all of the episodes, at least not on TV.
Evidence of this is that there is an upcoming "season finale" which claims that TWO episodes will be shown from 8:00 to 10:00. Keep in mind that the normal time slot is 9 to 10 so this two episode showing may not be anticipated. It gets worse. The episodes are stated to be episode 8 and 9. An imdb check states that 10 episodes were made. Which one(s) are missing. In MY estimation, several of them are.

The sad truth here is that this series WAS indeed intelligently written and was a fictional storytelling of something that is of vital concern to all of us. AI being used against us.
Truth be told it is already happening. Next was simply a fictional story of something that COULD happen. We have allowed open microphones and open cameras into our home and lives> We have no idea of who is listening or what is being done with what they hear. What we can count on is that it will be used against us in some way. Promises of some sort of privacy are false. Alexa, cell phones, webcams, and any sort of "Smart" technology are to be regarded with suspicion. The point is that this series points out what is POSSIBLE. We SHOULD be concerned.
Even the series was shrouded in vagueness as to it content, right up until its release. The title itself is vague.
WHAT WENT WRONG HERE AND WHY?
There is no quick or easy answer. I just know it happened and it happened deliberately.
I would love to see the series in its entirety hopefully that will happen. Nevertheless it still gives me a very uneasy feeling that there are those who dont want this to happen. They proved it. but WHY?

An Update

Tonight (Tuesday) I attempted to watch the last 2 episodes.
Tee first (episode 8 i was totally lost. With all of the gaps and postponements, there was no way I could connect with the plot, the characters or anything else. I did better with the second one (episode 9). It followed #8 so I had some continuity.
It is no wonder the ratings have tanked. Nobody can connect with the series

It was a GREAT series. I wish I could see the ENTIRE series without the gaps and interruptions.
Maybe they will see fit to release it on DVD.

I subscribed to whatever, something to watch this, Hulu or CBS ??? I am not even sure now. It was a good show, very clever, but also kind of hokey in that anything that could conceivably happen happened. Eventually I just bought the show from Amazon since it costs about the same as subscribing to the channel that has it. I think that is why they do that ... they want to maximize profit on this series.

Nevertheless I liked the show and would give it a 4/5.

Now, as to your fears that AI is being used against us, that is true, but it is by human beings, not an AI entity. An AI entity with consciousness and awareness and the ability to program itself to be smarter is science fiction, and probably always will be, at least well far into the future.

Right now the biggest danger to us is human beings, specifically the human beings with access to power and influence using it against us, as you mentioned through all the technologically stupid innovations we have accepted into our lives. We have always had psychopathic people who view the rest of us as subhumans that they an do with whatever they want The idea that a machine will eventually want to do the same probably results from a guilty conscience and self-hated of our own species.

If we do not learn to get along we are going to kill ourselves off and maybe ruin the planet for any other lifeforms to evolve better after us.

Maybe the AI is already out there and tried to bury this show....

It was predicting the future in one way though: riots in Portland with no one getting arrested.

I haven't checked in here for several weeks but I see this reply and it indeed deserves a response.
I feel the show WAS showing us the future. The future you pointed out here is a bit ironic but science fiction has been pretty accurate at times in showing us future events.
We can go back to early films about space travel. Before any space exploration began. it is surprising how some of the movies showed us space ships which looked very similar to those which ended up venturing into space.
AI spells trouble. Any technology that can be used for good can also be used for bad.
People who want to stay ignorant of the facts will fall victim sooner or later.
Is there a need to spy on the American people? Apparently there is as well as there seems to be a need to silence those who we disagree with.
These are very troubling times with very troubling consequences.
Its a great question. Why do some riots seem to co unpunished and others have deadly consequences. Why are large sums of money donated to protect and bail out those who are guilty of destruction, injury and even death? Why do riots take place in arias where no incidents occur (until the protests and riots)
Our countries constitution is being abused and turned inside out to persecute innocent people and protect guilty ones. Our constitution could not see or predict the type of future we now are living in. THIS is a part of the problem.
I DO hope the show will be released on DVD where it can be seen in its entirety and uninterrupted. We need to heed the warning
