Gravity in space films

So when they're taking off and entering space her necklace starts to float and I'm like "cool, finally no gravity," but shortly after that they turn on "artificial gravity."

Makes little sense you can the ship turning and twisting but they are flat.

I know it's expensive but that one show did it with Sean Penn at the end.

That was the point of of the long tether to the counterweight, so the ship could spin and generate g-forces. And the spinning would make it seem just like "real"gravity and down would be down.
