Very closely followed the book

I read the book over 40 years ago and remembered some things previewing but as the movie played, I realized it was following the book and all the action word for word. I've never seen a movie almost the same as the book itself. I only say almost because I have not reread the book to check for any discrepancies.

I imagine that because the book wasn't very long, the content fit quite nicely within the time limits of the movie.

Yeah. They could have wrecked it like they did JEM. Glad Blume apparently had substantive clout. Her work was not altered.

reply

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by JEM.

A friend told me that Judy Blume did not consent until it was the right script or something like that. Otherwise, they would have made this movie a long time ago.

reply

Do you know if they added anything? I read the book several times when I was a pre-teen, but has been about 40 years :-)

I didn't remember Barbara's parents visiting. I definitely remember Morris Binamin, "Rhymes with cinnamon."

reply

I remember Barbara's parents visiting. I recall her father booming, "The girl should be the religion of her mother!" or something like that.

reply

Thanks! I figured it was just that I didn't remember.

reply

I read the book recently and they took out a few things but except for Margaret going to camp at the beginning and end I don't think they added anything, and changed little if anything at all.
