If Benoit Blanc was such a great investigator, why didn't he ask the most obvious question during initial interviews?

The entire time he was interviewing Marta the first time, I was on the edge of my seat (figuratively) wondering how she would respond when he asked the most obvious final question.

However, that question never came and I spent the rest of the movie in a sort of shock wondering why didn't he ask her that.

If he knows she can't lie without vomiting, there's no way any competent investigator wouldn't ask at the end of the interview...

"is there anything else you're not telling me?"

reply

Isn't the more obvious questions : "Did you kill him?"

reply

Technically she didn't, because he cut his own throat.

A better question would be, "do you feel you are responsible for his death?"

reply

I will go with that.
