Long takes does not a good film make

This movie is pure Oscar bait but so much is made longer than needed and too many inconsistencies arise due to the insistence of making the movie look like it is done in a single take. It is like the director confused doing it in a long take with storytelling and progression. It really just became tedious after a while.

I haven't seen it yet, but everything I've heard sounds like what you said, Oscar bait. That's sorta been Sam Mendes' MO his entire career (not including the Bond films). It's a shame, because unlike hacks like Tom Hooper or Stephen Daldry, Mendes actually has some skill behind the camera. He can get some great performances out of his actors, and he most certainly knows how to shoot a scene. It's a shame then, that he always picks such safe, disposal Oscar bait material.

I don't think this is a very good movie. And while some of the long takes were lovely, others actually got in the way of conveying scenes properly. I think this film is absolutely a cinematic achievement and should certainly win a few awards. But I was never entertained.
