Such An Inspiring Movie
I had no idea that Rudy Ray Moore was a struggling comedian/musician who flailed around Hollywood for years before finally getting his big break.
His story is one of perseverance, as he sacrificed everything that he (and his friends & family) had in order to bet on himself and never gave up until he found success.
This movie does a great job in showing the man behind the character of Dolemite.
His fears, his insecurities, and his flaws are all put out there in a standout performance by Eddie Murphy.
The only problem I have is that Murphy didn't even try to capture Rudy Ray Moore's voice. He sounded nothing like Dolemite, really.
But the supporting cast, which is a who's who of Black Hollywood including Craig Robinson, Mike Epps, Chris Rock, Keegan Michael-Key and Snoop Dogg all do their part to tell the story of this rag tag band of dreamers, who all mortgaged their futures in some way to make Moore's vision of a feature film happen.
