Seems like they are paying homage to that with time loops and Tree revisiting events from the first movie albeit with some changes.

Back To The Future changed the present due to the use/misuse of time travel. This was more about the character going into another dimension and seeing an alternate universe. No change to her own present occurs.
well thats the difference , the similarity I refer to is that both main characters revisited events in the first movie.
