Completely unrealistic that he wasn't already with Lily

She was gorgeous, completely in love with the guy...and for fifteen years or so he just kind of...remained oblivious?
Goddang she was beautiful, did you notice how pretty she was? Good God man..

Anyway, was strange enough that she'd move on so fast from being in love with him for so long, but at the same time, he'd have had that coming. EXCEPT...apparently he was in love with her the entire time too, was the thing! He just kind of forgot, I guess...because that love-struck goofball never once tried to find out if it was reciprocated or not. Because whatever might be common in that situation, it definitely has nothing to do with a burning yearning to feel whole...or maybe even like your soul is being sucked through that gaping hole in your heart into lonely oblivion, day after day.

Nope, you remember you're in love with someone when they bring it up years later. But your career is just taking off, so...you'll be real sorry about stuff, but gosh dangit, you REALLY have to go. My bad!

But the very moment you find out she's seeing someone else? Instant misery...you'll be screaming for help from a motel rooftop moments later, during the pinnacle of your life's achievement thus far.

None of it really makes any sense IMO. Okay, maybe he loved her, but he definitely wasn't "in love" with her. IMO anyway. The whole thing was off somehow...

Rocky put it perfectly when he said "I'd have been loving her up" a couple times a day. (I forget the exact quote.)
