According to Episode Guides https://epguides.com/MagnumPI_2018/ season 5 is just 10 episodes and the same for season 6. What happened to 20 episodes per season??

When NBC took the show, that was the original plan. The way I have heard is they have decided to make season five 20 episodes by putting them together (The season six episodes were filmed back to back with season 5). The producers would then decide based on performance whether to renew for season six.

Unfortunately it didn't make it. They cancelled before the last ten episodes aired and pushed their release up because of the strike.
