OK, so you've neglected your friends for five years and now that you've had a breakup want to get back together with them, but they all hate you now. If you ignored them that long, did you really like them in the first place? Why not just make new friends?

No no, this is how they really are, they are absolutely miserable.
In the series it is presented funny because it has to remain light, but if you pay attention you see that everyone is deeply unhappy with the emptiness of their existence.
I found so little of interest that I quit long before that and did not finish. A movie should have some requirement to try to draw in a viewer from the start.
