The New Girl.

Does anybody feel like they included her too fast/easily. I get the feeling this group has been friends for a certain amount of years and just because the bearded guy(extremely annoying and that beard looks like a South Park face warmer) jumped her after a survivor meeting he brings her to a funeral and the house afterwards ??? That was crazy. Now she's already sharing confidences with the wives, coming over for breakfast, going to a father/daughter dance recital (that's a new one on me) and one of the husbands is consulting her professionally? Would this happen in "real" life ? I don't think the others would be so welcoming.

I definitely thought that was a bit odd too. She's casually sleeping with Gary, but then they all integrate her into their lives like it's nothing and she belongs there. It doesn't really make much sense, especially since Gary seems to be the kind of guy that casually sees a lot of women. In real life, they would all most likely be keeping their distance from her because they know that her "relationship" with Gary won't last very long. Instead they are acting like she was the missing piece to their group or something. It's definitely not very realistic.

I'm continuing to watch the show, but it's definitely flawed in a lot of ways.

Thanks. I wondered if it was only me that thought so.

They just needed a third female character on the show, but nothing about her insertion is realistic, especially the wives acting like she is their best friend.

reply

Thank you for that. And how many people would "get together" simply because they are both cancer survivors ? That's tacky.

reply

I didn't find them getting together to be all that odd. Shared bad experiences bringing two people together for what in real life would be a completely toxic relationship, but in this show will most likely be "love".

Exactly! She is kind of becoming a character that can do no wrong within her placement within the friends. She just knows to bring the wine and glasses with no indication of where they were going? (In the pilot). It makes no sense. She is too perfect.

reply

And btw, as I recall the wine and glasses were from one of the women's houses? (can't remember now which one)

I'd be totally freaked out if a new acquaintance swiped things from my home, no matter what "noble" reason she might have had! That's an unbelievable boundary violation, I don't understand why it was presented as something positive.

Like, "look what an amazing human being she is, she even thought to bring the wine".

Yep! From Delilah's house. Recent widow. Let me just stuff these things in my jacket. No big deal. It was ridiculous.

Everthing about her insertion into the group is weird. The only member of the group that is separate from her is Eddie, and that's obviously because they don't want the cheater character to have any interactions with the love interest of another character.

The whole show isnt credible. From the total lack of chemistry between Eddie/Catherine/ and their son Theo (who is adorable but cannot act) to Maggie being everyones best friend, to Delilah and Eddie not being together after the suicide..Like the audience will pine for them to be together,,,I really dont care if they get together. Its a show that is very similar to 30 Something and the movie The Big Chill.
