When it comes down to it when Disney markets a new movie they want to attract everyone boys and girls alike so by doing this it makes the film successful. With Onward Disney/Pixar wanted to attract both boys and girls by developing characters that were positive role models for them. But there are female characters in Onward that girls will like such as Laurel Lightfoot and The Manticore that are full of humor that girls will like. But ever since Pixar debuted Toy Story 2 Disney/Pixar had the character Bo Peep as the female character but when it was shown that Toy Story's audience was mainly boys Disney knew that even though Bo Peep was the sole female character in Toy Story it wasn't enough so with Toy Story 2 that's why Jessie was added to the movie to attract girls and I will ask you how many little girls you know carry a Jessie doll or have Jessie merchandise? Probably every little girl you see. And now that Onward is a hit I bet you can count how many little girls carry Ian Lightfoot and Barley Lightfoot plush dolls or have them as bedtime cuddle buddies or how much Onward merchandise is bought by little girls?. Disney repeated the same thing with Planes by having the character Dusty Crophopper become the sole character of merchandise that just like Toy Story Planes attracted boys and even though they had the two female planes Rochelle and Ishani it still wasn't enough so when Planes Fire And Rescue came out they added a another female character named Dipper who was voiced by Julie Bowen to attract girls. So as long as DisneyPixar keeps creating movies there will always be a huge female audience to them
