Just rewatched OUATIH since seeing it in cinema and it got me thinking.. what if Rick had guest starred on Star Trek instead of Lancer.. Timothy Oylphant looks abit like William Shatner and Rick could've been the main villain Klingon or another starship captain gone space mad of a random 3rd season episode. lookalike actors could've been Spock/Nimoy, Bones etc if necessary(obviously not from the JJ films)

I guess the drawback would be each episode of Trek is pretty famous especially with fans whereas Lancer.. who knows about/remembers that? (Then again as this is a fantasy/alternate reality movie it could've been some made up 'lost' episode of Trek). Also the final Trek episode was filmed in January 69 and OUATIH is set Feb 69 onwards (but I guess QT could've changed that to accommodate Trek).

But I guess it makes more sense for it to have been a western series as thats what Dalton used to do, the title being a rift on Once Upon a time in the West, and the fact Rick & Cliff were kind of like Butch & Sundance living out the last days of the wild west/last days of the Golden Hollywood age

Rewatching some of OUATIH last night showing on TV, and Pacino telling DiCaprio he's the latest in the studio ploy of using stars of cancelled series to play the heavy in new shows like Mannix, Tarzan, UNCLE, Batman, etc where at the end they get the shit kicked out of them by the new up and comer . got me thinking back to the 60s shows and later.. and Shatner appearing in stuff Six Million Dollar Man (Steve Austin vs Captain Kirk!), Columbo (Columbo vs Kirk!), M:I, HFO, and others (including Mannix). I guess Shatner part influenced Rick Dalton (along with Clint Eastwood and others) and Leo had similar hair style to Shatner in Star Trek
