Doesn't seem to be getting the love it deserves

It probably doesn't hit you during it's first watch like Moonlight did. But this is a excellent follow up to that Oscar winning film, sure it won a lot of awards for Regina King (surprised how little she's in it, but when she's on screen she's excellent) but only 2 Oscar nods shows how overlooked this film was. For me this is way better film then say Green Books, Bohemian Rhapsody or Vice. Really surprised it was to considering the critic's adored it.

From the beautiful music (a deserving oscar nod for that), fantastic acting not just from King (Kiki Layne is one to watch out for), amazing cinematography and amazing script. It definitely feels like a film that would have come from the 70's golden period or from a foreign director. But Barry Jenkins is definitely turning into one of America's leading lights.

Just going by this board alone, it's shocking how few actually saw it.

If Beale Street Could Talk – Fonny and Tish
First time I watched this I really did not see it as a love story. I just thought it was another sad story based in the ghetto.
I watched it again when I was making a music video for it and I saw something more.
You see Fonny and Tish are in love and grew up toghether which makes their bond even stronger not only because their families know each other, but because they have seen each other grow.
I was blown away by the way Fonny was so sensitive to Tish.He was aware of her innocence and it was something he cherished and something he was so mindful of throughout.
I especially love the love scene when he is aware that she has probably never exposed her naked body to a man so she would feel more naked than he does, so he covers her with a quilt.
Then he ensures that the whole experience is special, he puts on slow music , he slowly undresses her then himself, he speaks to her before and encourages her to hold onto him. It had me wanting a man who is that sensitive to my needs as a person who has not been down this road for a long time.
Then I love these glances they share, I struggle to describe them: Its like they both have this exhilaration when they see each other, like the kind of look you give someone when you feel like the fact that this person loves you makes the whole world just seem so right , so worthwhile, beautiful. Also the fact that their love is young love makes it all the more delightful.
Before I saw a sore story based in the doldrums but now I see a young love, a fresh love that even though it is rooted in tragedy , disturbed by turbulent family dynamics and put to test by the harshest of circumstances, it is a beautiful love for it triumphs above all.
God’s light be shining on it y’all.

Even before they get to the love scene he allows her to stall it so she feels comfortable enough to give her body to him. He is also so romantic by asking her whether she wants to stop before they get to it.
