Last episode.. (spoilers)

So I watched this and I have to admit, it's a masterpiece till the last episode. I mean, why would you even end it this way? It felt like I was watching a different movie, so so bad. You build up something so good, I mean the acting is almost perfect from the kids and adults too, writing is almost perfect and after all this you end it with fuckin Ed Sheeran songs like and nothing makes sense, It looked like an ending from a fuckin Disney production. What exactly did Hugh showed Steve at the end? That his mother commited suicide? They all knew that, what was the big secret that he couldn't tell for so long? And why didn't he commited suicide too and stayed with his wife from the start? It's not like he wanted to stay with the kids, he was away most of their life, they were raised by their aunt. Doesn't make any sense, it just ruined the show for me. And the house became such a happy place from the most evil shit on the earth lol. I don't know, maybe I just didn't get it, I would still recommed the series just for the actors performance, but the last episode blew it away for me.

I fully agree with you.

I really loved this show, but the last episode… ugh.
Suddenly, they all got their lives striaght – umm, but why?
Because their father commited suicide? Because they got to talk to their dead sister a last time? Because they know that Mommy, Daddy and Sis still live, kind of, in that house which is, as you said, suddenly a happy place?

To me, it felt like a forced happy ending. As if someone at Netflix didn’t like the ending that was planned and then, the showrunners only had the final episode left to suddenly take a turn and make everyone happy. It’s one of the rare cases where I, if I had watched this on DVD, would check the special features, desperately hoping there’s an alternative ending included.

In case you just didn't get it… well, then I didn't get it either.

It definitely felt like that! 😂

I watched it on DVD - sadly there wasn't.

Maybe it's just been a happy ending for the Crains and the Dudleys (they were the only colourful spirits in the house). Every other ghost is still tormented.

The finale made my rating go from 8 to 6. It was so underwhelming and felt like a tearjerker.

I had exactly the same experience. All those mysteries that kept me coming back ended up either being plot holes, or your obvious first thought, or a nonsensical character inconsistency.

Flanagan can write and direct great moments and string you along but he’s not a great storyteller. More of my thoughts on this here…

I really liked the show as a whole, but that last episode was like a slap in the face.
