How Does The Reincarnation Work?

I was confused about time lines. The person Treadway was at the beginning of the film seemed to be in the current era (Ferrari's etc) but then Evan was born in the '70s and is now (at least) 40 so what year is it supposed to be? Then the Treadway kid at the end was about 15 so did the Artisan find him 15 years after the events of the movie?

None of that made sense.

Film was mostly entertaining though. Reminded me of Jumper. Not great, not terrible.
