So reviewers lied when they said that this was the finale of the X-Men franchise?

The upcoming Deadpool/Wolverine movie seems to suggest that it wasn't. Marvel Studios never said they were going to do a hard reboot. In fact, Sebastian Stan confirmed that it was possible for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to return for the MCU if he was up for it. He said this right after Disney bought 20th Century. Here is the video:

Then when the merger was complete The Hollywood Reporter stated that Kevin Feige was meeting with several members of the original X-Men. This was months before Dark Phoenix came out.

Marvel Studios has not publicly revealed any plans for integrating members of the X-Men and Fantastic Four into its cinematic universe, though Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is said to have met with several members of the X-Men old guard in recent months.

So why does the Rotten Tomatoes consensus (and the many reviews on the site) say that this was the end of the franchise? Because the evidence was suggesting the contrary.

Someone owns the franchise, therefore it will never end as long as they can make money from it.

Obviously. People seem to forgot that Marvel Studios was business.

They meant it was the finale of the X-Men produced by 20th Century Fox. Marvel will make many changes to the X-Men but Hugh Jackman is a big star who has made playing Wolverine the highlight of his career. There are reports that Marvel will call them The Mutants instead of X-Men. Disney/Marvel will mess it up since they place a premium on diversity, equity and inclusion. I read some reports that Marvel even wanted to have a black Charles Xavier and Magneto. Ugh! X-Men is such a popular brand/franchise so I don't think Marvel should fix something that isn't broken.

New Mutants was released after it. Plus reviewers like Movie Bob were literally saying that the X-Men franchise was dead and claimed that Marvel was going to soon reboot.
