Very weird and disjointed movie ...

Runs weakly on Ben Mendelsohn's gravitas ... but kind of into the ground. Edie Falco acting just like Carmela Soprano. Pointless and rather depressing. An odd movie to make. Why?

I'd give it a 4/10

It’s the story of a man overcoming white people problems entirely of his own devising.

What are "white people problems"?

Under psychology look up the YAVIS syndrome.

Interesting. What do you think of this, yourself?
Based on the article you linked to, this syndrome seems to be more linked to socio-economic status than to skin colour (as per molkirouat's argument) and I don't believe both can systematically be conflated together.

This was a thing way back when I was in school studying psychology, my professor talked about it. It is kind of describing the Yuppies of psychology. I don't really think much of its but it is basically the idea of rich people being affluent enough to take their psychological problems seriously. At least at the time the demographic for psychotherapy was white people. Today???? Who knows, the psychologist on the new version of "In Treatment" is a black lady, and two of her TV patients are persons of color?

I just though this movie didn't really have a point or go anywhere. Maybe I missed something, but it was drug abuse and depression among the rich financial set. It was a pretty stupid movie. At the end our "hero" or "antihero" gets assaulted on his forehead by a neighbor's cigar.
