I don't find him boring but he's supposed to be distant and cold, that way they can show him "warming up" and becoming a real person. Just like the feel-good girl Claire keeps making mistakes because her judgement is clouded by emotion. And of course they throw them together as a couple because opposites attract. Last week Jared donated a bunch of money to another hospital for tilapia skins but this week feeds a sob story about his terrible parents to the geezer who wants to die. My take was that he was lying. But I like the show. It's not a great show but is mildly entertaining. I hope they break up the routine of Shaun never learns anything but everyone around him goes through self discovery.
