Terminator 2 was the beginning of the downfall of the series, in my opinion.

That's my personal and most likely unpopular opinion! :P

agree and as other pointed out why youre not the only one. I loved T2 back then, but now I feel its a pretty childish SJW movie that ulimately led to the retarded humor of T3.

The added scenes make it even worse.

even more unpopular: i really liked and enjoyed Genisys

The first 40 minutes of Genisys was incredible because it had that 80s vibe. I truly love the vibe of 1984's Terminator world: dark empty streets and blue hues etc.

The one thing I didn't like about those first 40 mins was the way they easily destroyed the young T800... This was such a slap in the face for the T800 in the original T1.

well they had 40 years to prepare for its arrival. in OG 84 they didnt have .50cal around to shoot him.

Yeah that's true but there's some things you shouldn't do in movies. One of them is to ruin the legendary status of the first movie's main character by making him look weak and easily defeatable despite in-verse logic.

What you say makes sense and I even agree with you in-universe wise. However, from a perspective of movie viewer, I personally felt this was a slap in the face to T1. And Arnold, if he had any spec of self respect left, should have thought something similar to this whilst reading the script for Genisys and ask them to change the young T800 death to another way. Terminator 1984 made Arnold an overnight moviestar thanks to his iconic portrayal of an iconic indestructible robotic slasher killer.
It felt to me like he honestly didnt Genisys for a paycheck anyway. So I doubt he have an honest shit about how to handle the young T800 which made him so famous.

Thanks for the comment! :)

to me it didnt change anything. afterall is first movie is untouched and the t800 as powerful as ever there. the missing equipment to deal with him never really was the main problem, but the disbelief of the officials.
i found t1 actually got benefit from the "remake" because it was fun to compare the scenes and rewatch the original.

That's a good point actually. Thanks!

Although T2 has it's own problems, it wasn't a series until T2 was made. I like that the two films have different tones and they tried to do something different instead of rehashing the same exact film. T2 is a much more action/sci-fi film while T1 is a horror/sci-fi; both great films. I think any film that deals with time travel you're going to have logistical problems, and well, it's time travel so suspension of disbelief is required.

I think it is unfair to say that T2 ruined the series when it began the series. What ruined the series was the studio trying to replicate T2's success with every additional installment by copying the story, with the exception of TS although it does take some major elements from T2 such as the friendly terminator.

But there are moments in T2 that are too Hollywoodish and more comical than T1. T1 was a horror story. T2 was an action film; I respect that but it felt less serious than T1.

I really wish studios would stop trying to emulate T2 but they won't stop, just like the titular character lol.

I don't disagree at all. One is a sci-fi/action film while the other is a horror/sci-fi film, and as I mentioned, they have completely different tones. The problem is the studios trying to replicate T2 instead of doing something different.

I wonder if they reverted back to a serious horror focus in T3 if it would have been successful.

Growing up, I was actually scared of the TX in T3 lol. If T3 had no comical elements, it would have been a much better film in my opinion :)

They should revert back to the claustrophobic horror of T1. Just for a change! People would PAY to see that because it's be something tonally different for the series.
