Heroine was hard to root for

This movie had it's perks. What bugged me is the overall premise: no real conflict.

Penny complained her husband's never home, than complains about the stress's of her job. Then she wished she wasn't married. She finds herself in an alternate reality which she's successful and not married, yet keeps acting like she's supposed to be married (when it's clear nothing in her normal world ever happened); and spends half the movie searching and trying to win him back instead of living the moment. Instead, this version made me think she was whiny, selfish and didn't know what she wanted, and that words can be strong and lead to consequences.

I guess it would have made better sense of the marriage was strained to the point of separation. Then they went into an alternate world not knowing each other and still single, and crossing paths, gradually falling in love. Yet circumstances making it complicated. He could've still been engaged and she dating someone else. Then it would be more interesting seeing real conflict in the marriage and trying to get back together.

I agree with your premise, it would have been better if they had utilized your ideas.
