No surprises there. The ratings are great and it'll probably run as long as the mothership show.

I hope not. I'd be fine with just four. It doesn't need to run forever. Armitage will hit the ugly portion of puberty and lose his TV appeal soon. Plus, he'll be nearing the age he's stated as being in college, and I feel like if/when the show hits that point in the story, that's when it'll lose its magic. It's *Young* Sheldon, after all.

I've not read anything specific one way or another, but I assume it means Parsons will return? I can't imagine them doing it without him or trying an imitator. I was a bit surprised, since he was the deciding factor of BBT ending, but then again, if the pay is good, I'm sure simply narrating has to be a much easier gig.

Good point. I didn't think too much about Iain getting older. I have faith he'll be able to pull it off as a teenage Sheldon should the series continue beyond a fourth season.

Young can be referring to Sheldon pre-2007 or earlier if you take "The Staircase Implementation" into consideration. It can easily run a good ten years depending on certain factors.

Don't forget, this is also CBS we're talking about. If they want Chuck Lorre to drastically alter the plot ([spoilers]think "Two and a Half Men" with Ashton Kutcher[/spoilers]), then you can be certain he and the writers will most likely ignore a majority of the events in "TBBT" if the network is receiving a buttload of money from their sponsors.

I think Jim is doing a lot more voice-over acting as of recent. At least that what it seems like to me.

I think he can pull off the role as a teen fine. But do we really need/want ten years? It'll feel ridiculous to watch him in his early 20s. Because at that point it'll essentially be the early TBBT years. And considering that it took a while for grown Sheldon on the parent show to show any real growth as a character/person, we should decidedly expect little real character growth for him on Young Sheldon in its remaining years. And since we know he tends to not get close to people, it may be hard to have character-driven stories for him once he inevitably moves out of the house and away from the other characters. Which I feel like they can really only put off another season or so. So again, no growth.

While the ratings are still really good, they are of course lower than last season. So the two-season renewal makes me wonder how much of it was confidence, and how much was desperation, with TBBT going away. And will this show take its time slot, or remain in its own with a new lead-in? At least the two-season renewal will let them plan ahead well either way.
