Kitsch is not right for the role.

In this role he looks and acts like some random redneck bum. Koresh might have been weird, but he had presence and a certain charisma. I just cannot see all those people faithfully following Kitsch's version of Koresh. I can see him pumping gas or fixing my roof but not leading a cult.

Koresh always came off as a "random redneck bum" to me.

I could not see why anyone would follow him that wasn't already religiously indoctrinated.

2nd episode down and Kitsch still seems weaker and more fragile than the real Koresh. I do like his performance in spite of this. A particular favorite moment was the ice cream scene. He makes a passable cult leader but he just doesn't have the right feel for Koresh.

If you listen to real recordings of Koresh, it's actually that Kitsch doesn't sound redneck enough, rather than too redneck. The real Koresh wasn't quite as articulate.

But I like the portrayal. It's possible that the mannerisms may not be exactly spot-on, but he does act the potential duplicitousness of the character quite well.

Don't forget, in the ice cream scene, he had the undercover ATF agent in his house, his kid probably had gotten the rod if he was not there. So he made it look like he does not even hit his kids or others in the house. Those were one of the charges they put on Koresh, that he (also sexually) abused kids.

Good point. I thought the same when I watched the scene

he's quite good IMHO

On the contrary, TK killed it last night. I actually think he was great during the entire season!!!!

I couldn’t agree more. This was the first film I’ve seen Kitsch in, so maybe that has something to do with it. However I thought he really committed to the character and it didn’t seem over-the-top to me. Now I was very very young when Waco originally happened so maybe I’m missing nuances, but I thought he was great.
