Jason Clarke's accent...

He's a good actor but did I miss the scene where they explained that his character was born in America and moved to England hence the unconvincing British accent? Why do filmmakers continue to cast Americans to play British roles when most can't do the accent? There had to be plenty of willing and able British actors to play the part.
