Aunt Harriet and the veiled homosexuality references

I thought they were hilarious for the most part, but the last one was a bit on the nose (skeet shooting).

Probably the funniest part of the movie to me.

Ironic because wasn't it the reason her character even existed? To downplay accusations Batman and Robin were homosexuals? I'm not sure how Dick Grayson's Aunt living with them was supposed to change that, though.

No, now you mention it, living with ones aunt doesn't prove that you aren't gay. It's not like Aunt Harriet was romantically involved with either of them, is it?

The logic that an all male show meant all the men in it were gay, but adding one female whoever she is means the character can't possibly be gay doesn't really make sense.

Different times, I guess.

Yeah so I googled that. Thanks I wouldn't have imagined it

I had no clue oO
If you hadn't told me.

How would one jump to that conclusion?... and I thought she suspects something else.

In the 1960's the producers were getting a lot of flak from the network because people were surmising that the Dynamic Duo were trouser trolls (older rich guy takes in a fit, young boy orphan). They answered that with having Aunt Harriet live with them, and adding a slew of romantic interests (crushes really) for Robin and even Batman. There was no Talia yet, so it was completely subject to interpretation.

Dirty minded people.
Batman has had his Robin decades before in the comics.
And their abusive relationship was more of the slapping kind. ^^

I hated that. It was one of the few things I disliked in this mostly fun movie. I think the humor in this should have been circumscribed to what would have flown in 1966, not have modern sexual/vulgar humor. Same goes to the masturbation joke (Robin having been working on his biceps or whatever) and Joker's fart.

They would never joke about a gay subtext in the 1966 Batman show, and much less have an old lady be actually okay with it as she seems to be.

This is not my signature. This is IMDb's automatic translation of my signature.

reply

The bicep joke isn't about masturbation, it's a joke about Robin skipping Leg day.

I guess you never watched “Bewitched”.
