If Elio was a girl, would his dad have had the same reaction?

I lost my $h!t at the dad being so cool with the affair. His underage son is a statutory rape victim and the only reason I can think of that he's so chill is that it's a boy.

Imagine if he had a daughter who was getting banged in his own house by a man he invited into his home. Would he be so accommodating? I think not.

I was wondering about this the other day, and decided to watch this movie yesterday. After reading a few short summaries, I didn't think it sounded that interesting. The summaries made it seem like a rather typical love triangle with a homosexual twist. But I was curious to see how the film treated such a relationship and yeah, it's treated as a romantic situation with tranquil settings accompanied by cheerful music throughout the entire film and as an added boost, the parents are rather joyous when they discover this relationship... lol...

Other movies of this nature, (older guy/younger girl) are always shown as something sinister and/or very shady. But this was treated quite differently.

That being said, the film itself is not too bad. I wasn't wowed by it or anything but it has some pretty good dialogue and a decent ending. Personally, I think the film might have been better if Oliver was an older woman. But since it's based on a book, it had to follow a certain story. I'll give it a 6.0 out of 10. It has to be one of the most overrated films of 2018.
