Changed it Up a Bit Huh?

From what I knew it was the tabby cat that rescued Will & Lyra by fighting the Golden Monkey. If I was Will I’d be super pissed at Lyra for standing there in a trance while Borreal had his way with him. Some friend. When did Pan get so tough? That I don’t believe.

From what I knew I thought it was the witches or one witch sent by Serifina who interceded in some confrontation between Lyra, Will & Mrs. Coulter & Borreal. I thought it was over this but probably I’m wrong.

Hate those bratty girls & how they blamed Will for that kid getting hurt. That means they knew about what the knife was & what it did, evil little tweens. So what was he going to do? Stay there in the tower with it? It’s not like Lyra or Will had a hand in the Spectres hurting him, they need to calm down.

I agree, they definitely altered the story, but it seems with Philip Pullman's blessing.

I haven't read the books in a long while, but the scene with the recovery of the Alethiometer from Boreal's treasure room was completely different, no epic fight between Pan and Coulter's daemon. Hell, she was never even THERE.

If I remember, all the girls knew was that their friend was in the tower and had something that kept the Spectres away from him as he was the most vulnerable to them, and they were enraged with Lyra and Will for taking that thing away from him so the Spectres could take his soul.

This adaptation is completely different to the books, to be honest, and I think it's down to the sheer fantastical nature of the third book, and the typical BBC drama budget not being able to accommodate it.

Thanks for the reply Foebane72. Next week it seems through the previews those girls are threatening Will & Lyra. How much of a danger can they be? They’re kids, pre teens, etc. Like I’m running for my life from the likes of them, even Will shouldn’t be concerned, but you get the vibe that they can do something, fantastical as it sounds.

Lyra freezing up with Will begging her for help got on my last nerve. That’s it, I’m not rolling with this girl again! LOL! Well that’s me but Will is bit more forgiving but c’mon! Pan looks like a Disney character, I’d rather him stay a ferret or something like that.

I don't know, would you really want Lyanna Mormont pissed at you? Kid or not she could probably find a way to do some damage.

HDM is not an easy trilogy to translate to film, and it only gets more difficult as it goes on. The Amber Spyglass is going to be a real challenge! It'll probably have a budget bigger than the first two seasons put together. They've made small changes where they had to, in order to make the story coherent for viewers who haven't read the books, and I expect they'll continue doing that.

Pullman has had considerable creative control, I think, so the changes clearly have his blessing. For the most part, I think the show works. I do find the Magisterium and witches scenes rather dull but there is some good acting - Ruth Wilson, Simone Kirby and the two kids are very good - and it’s a handsome production that captures the spirit of the novels rather well. As mentioned above, I think these are really tricky books to adapt, and all things considered the positives outweigh the negatives.
