Yellow washing...

Why is Edward an Asian dude?

reply

Why is Motoko a white girl in GITS?
Also try to find a white dude that can speak Japanese fluently.

reply

Motoko never had a human body, therefore no one will ever know what she actually was. If you know anything about GITS, you would know she has had many bodies - including that of a child at the end of the original movie - so she can be anything.

..Joe

reply

She was born Japanese. She uses a Japanese body most of the time. So yeah.

reply

How was she was "born" Japanese? Her parents died in a car accident when she was pregnant with Motoko. she wasn "born," as much as she was "grown" in a lab.

..Joe

reply

No, she was already born at the time of the accident; she was a little girl. She and one other boy is the only survivor. The boy was one of the characters that inspired the villain in this movie.

reply

In the first GITS film her mother died in a car accident while still pregnant with Kusanagi. Everything else is to make canon easier to swallow.

Which film are you talking about? Neither the manga nor the 1995 animated film (and its sequel) revealed anything about her childhood. We were only given her background story in SAC, and as I said, her childhood friend in that series is the one on which the live-action movie is based on.

reply

Its a Japanese production and Japan is not diverse like American. Its not like the people making this film can afford an entire English Speaking cast and manage the expenses

I hope your this upset about the whitewashing that has happened in Ghost in The shell and Death Note.

Ask the guards, they'll deny it. Ask the inmates here—they'll cut their tongues out before they talk

reply

Bullcrap! Snowpiercer is a Koran film, yet most of the actors are white.

reply

That movie had a smaller group of actors and did not have many expenses compared to this movie, the budget was able to manage everything

reply

Snowpiercer was directed by a Korean, yes, but the film was adapted from a French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige which was written by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette. Nothing about the story or film is Korean.

Again you're doing it here AGAIN.

So, I'll ask again. What number does the white population in Japan have to reach for discrimination to be a valid concern? Why won't you answer this? Not as diverse? There's plenty of white people living in Japan who probably speak Japanese.

Because it's cheaper? Are you saying that un-known white actors would be more expensive in Japan? Didn't you say

Worried about budget? A budget isn't valid enough for discrimination. If you can hardly afford to make a movie and one of your budget concerns is the race of the main cast, then quite simply don't make the movie. I'm pretty sure this all Japanese produced for their all Japanese audience has absolutely no problem with an all Japanese cast. They definitely weren't beating themselves up over this decision. Japan got what it wanted. An all Japanese cast at the cost of discrimination on the grounds of MAJORITY.

reply

Wow, you guys have issues.

Just because a white man can speak Japanese doesn't mean that he's qualified to be an A-list actor. I don't know much about what kind of jobs white actors can get there outside commercials, but I don't think there is much.

The rarity of white actors is one factor, but the biggest reason why white actors rarely have parts in the Japanese movie industry is simply because there is no demand. Outside commercials and "white monkey" jobs, I don't think Japanese people are eager to see non-japanese actors.

reply

I'll give you GITS, but Death Note is fine in my opinion. The Hollywood Death Note is simply a reimagining of the story in America, while the main character has similar names, they're definitely are different characters.

GITS on the other hand uses the same characters from the anime, while they change the main character's back story, they kept the visual, clothes, her room, etc. Using a white actor with a Japanese name is way too dissonant for me.

reply

Yellowwashing is not a real thing. At what point during history have any East Asian people held power over white people? never. So, yellowwashing is not a real thing.

reply

Racism is racism. Has nothing to do with power. It's a mindset.

reply

power has everything to do with racism. Please go read up on it.

reply

Social Justice Warriors man. This is why people dislike you. Maybe YOU should go read up on racism and find out that racism isn't exclusive to just having power over others. If you don't think there aren't any racist Asians out there towards whites or any and all other races and nationalities, you're delusional. Anyone can be racist towards anyone for any set of reasons. This isn't exclusive to whites. Asians can be racist just like anyone else.

Claiming they can't is just giving them the power to be racist and get away with it. And from what I understand, you're against that.

reply

Whaaat? You didn't use your second account ThatFairZack to back up your arguments? Wow that's something you don't see everyday.

reply

Ever heard of WWII? They held the power of life or death over tens of thousands of whites and millions of Asians...

The Japanese held power over millions of Chinese. They raped over 80,000 children, young girls, and women in Nanjing alone, because they considered the Chinese sub-human. They killed over 200,000 just in Nanjing in 6 weeks. Not soldiers, anybody they felt like. That sound racist to you?

The Japanese held power over millions of Koreans. They forced young girls and women to become "comfort women" to pleasure and son of Nippon at any time. That's because they considered the Koreans sub-human. That sound racist to you?

Oh, they did that to white women as well. That sound racist to you?

They had Unit 731 which carried out medical experiments on people, whites included. They had no problem doing this, because all soldiers that surrendered were without honor, so they could do as they pleased with them. That sound racist to you?
