The ending...spoilers

So the ending can be interpreted in many ways. Did he rejoin his home? Could it be it was all in his mind? Was the entire film just a fantasy played out in his mind, delusions of abruptly leaving his family, his job etc? If it wasnt a fantasy, then he was cruel to inflict that on his wife.

Did all that time pass? Or did he just return home as usual, with no time passing? So many other scenarios, and I am curious to see what others think. Many critics didnt like the ending, as well as many viewers from reading reviews. I thought it was a great cast of actors, and the film could have been stellar.. but it sadly let the ball drop at the end.
