Watched the first couple episodes so far

It seems like I'm missing something. People behave a certain way and have certain attitudes and the next time they appear, they're different and have accepted some different way of thinking, but there is no transitional scenes or explanations for how this happened. Do I have to read the books to understand that stuff better?

You do have to read the books for more understanding. The Witcher universe is very gritty, there is no right or wrong, just grey. So, things change due to situations. Things are never fair there, one must adapt. The books explain this kid of things very good

It won't make this show any better. This show is just terrible. It just fails on every level.
